The end of the year reflections

What I liked about being a year 7:

Being a year 7 was awesome because of all the cool things we could do, and I also like being a year 7 because we can take our net books home and we could use them every where. Like for example how you take a phone around a net book is sort of the same but bigger. I am really going to miss being a year 7 but I am going to move on to being a year 8 next year in 2013.

What's going to happen next year for me:

I cant wait until next year because I am going to be a year 8, and what I am focusing on this year and next year is to do all of my work properly and to try and achieve in my goals that I am going to do. I also want achieve in the work I do at school like maths, reading and writing, these are the things that I am really focusing on in my work at the moment.

Team - Building

On Thursday the year 7s were at school while the year 8s were at tech, but that was cool because the year 7s were doing activities. 

The first thing we had to do was that the teachers put up a form on the projector with our names on it, I was in a group with Ahsin, Kendrix, Serena, Vivienne, Shoal, Lorenzo, Xavier and I. This was our group and we had to work as a team, so our first activity was to make a Christmas tree with News paper, tap, Scissors, Colored paper, Tin foil and String, and then we had to go into spots to try and figure out to make a Christmas tree. At first we thought of using the foil as Christmas decorations and we used the brown paper for the tree but then we thought of putting some news paper of the brown paper so that it could hold it there. Then we used some tap to stick the paper together, after that we had to stick some decorations on and then it was all finished. The next thing we had to do was to think of a carol to sing around our Christmas tree and we sang Jingle Bells Jingle Bells and that was my favourite part of the day when the 8s were at tech. 

What I am expecting for next year 2013

When I become a year 8 next year I expect it to be an awesome year and I also expect more listing for me and more work so that I can become smart when I grow up. I also want to join in alot of sports as well so that I can achieve them and my work at the same time. I would love to be a leader and to not be shy getting up on the stage and doing something like a part for a play or singing, and this is what I expect to happen next year in 2013.

Christmas Tree Lighting / Telecom Thank You

On Saturday night some Point Englanders came to the Christmas tree lighting, in the city. 

I would like to say a big thank you to the Telecom people that were there helping us and giving us free things, and also guiding us through the events and other things, and I also want to thank Courtney and Karyn for helping us as well. 

The best thing that liked about it was the Titanium group that came up on the stage and sang. They were so awesome that when they were finished they went to there tent and then they came out and there were so many people outside of there tent. I went to them and asked them all for there autograph and a hug. And when it was time for them to go I saw them putting on there hoodys and running down the street, and that was the best time that I had on that night.

My Favorite Things I like To Do.

Singing and Dancing, I like doing these main things. I like singing but not in front of hundreds of people because I get really nervous and I kind of get stage fright. Dancing is kind of not my thing but I try to dance like really good people who are way better then me.

I sing everywhere because I want to get better every single day and I also sing when I am upset because it makes me feel relaxed. Singing is also hard for people because they got to get it right and try not to make any mistakes. My favorite singers are Jordan Sparks, Beyounce, Neyo, Chris Brown and Justin Bieber. I don’t really like dancing because when I dance, to me it looks silly.

I really like the movies at Hoyts because some of the movies are from books like “The Adventures of Tintin” it is a famous book that alot of people like, like me. I also like going to the movies because sometimes there are 3D glasses their, and the screen is so humongous that I think that is the largest screen in Auckland city. My favorite Movie that I have watched at the movies was Street Dancer in 3D.

Mount Tongariro Erupted Again.

An eruption at the crater about 1.30pm on Wednesday sent an ash plume shooting up to 4 kilometres into the sky ( Waikato ). The mountain spewed some ash possibly a couple of kilometres up in the air. The eruption was a loud explosion but it only lasted for a short amount of time. I hope that all the people who live close to Mt-Tongariro will get to somewhere safe and I hope that know one will get hert from it. I got some information from a website saying “There were a large number of people on the mountain today, many completing the Tongariro Crossing, and it is believed everyone is safe”

Swimming Practical

Room 19 have been going swimming on Wednesday’s after morning tea. We learn on how to kick off the edge of the pool and glide through the water. The we had some races to see who can swim all the way up to the other side of the pool and back, but then for a while we started having fun and having free time in the pool. Then we had to get out and get changed into our school uniform. What I have learned at swimming was that you should always listen to your coach or the person that is teaching you so that you can get things right.

Obama re-elected as US President

President Barack Obama has beaten Mitt Romney to win a second term as President of the United States of America. I think that it is good  that  president Obama is re-elected as the US president, I also think that he is really happy about it as well. It happened on the 7-8 of november in the united states of america. I wonder that if on that day he got re-elected he was so happy to be the president for another term. “ Three cheers for president Barack Obama, hip horray hip horray hip hooray” Dante said happily, enjoying her hooray's.

Maniakalani Film Festival

And this was our fifth Maniakalani Film Festival.

On Wednesday the 14th of November Pt England School went to the Manaiakalani Film Festival at Sylvia Park. We went at around 1:30 in the afternoon, we travelled by bus all the way to Sylvia Park and when we got there we saw alot of schools coming in and out of the doorways. When we went inside the doors we had to go and sit in our seats, but I am only going to talk about my favorite part of the Manaiakalani Film Festival. Well my favorite movie that I watched is room 18, because of how they were doing different facials from when they were looking at each other ( because they were really bored). I think that the funniest facial was Raihan’s because he looked like he was trying to do the pukana, and when Starford took out his phone and wanted to video chat with Brook on her phone (awkward! But funny and cool at the same time).

A Stick through a balloon

On Friday room 19 and I were blowing up balloons and trying to put a pointy stick through it, but it was sort of hard for me because I thought that if I put the pointy stick through the balloon then it would pop. So I tried it, and it worked I was really happy that I actually did it instead of just sitting in my chair doing nothing. After that we had to try and see if we could blow up a balloon in a big Pump bottle and if we did Mr Harris said that he would give us $50.00, but most of us couldn't because it was to hard. I think the people that was the closest was Athena and Tui.

Fictional Text Of 'The Wing Of Maui's Moa'

This is a photo I took of the book that I read about.

On a stormy night Maui called out to his Moa to come and rescue him because he was in the ocean, but his Moa was so far away, so he had to try and climb to safety. But then there was a humongous animal inside the water and Maui didn’t know what it was, so he tried to swim as fast as he can to get as close to shore. But then the sea animal grabbed Maui and dragged him down into the deep sea, so Maui grabbed his sword and stabbed the sea animal. After that it was the next day Maui was so angry that he felt like killing something, so he called his Moa again then his Moa came, and quickly Maui picked up his Moa and threw it across the sea. The Moa was trying to fly but then it just ended up on a hill filled with grass, then Maui went away with a sad look on his face while the Moa was on the hill dying with pain.

Buzzy The Bee

On a beautiful sunny evening  my toy, Buzzy the bee, went to the library to find some books to take home. But there was a problem he didn’t know what to put his books in so that he could take it home.

So he went to the counter and saw a little red shiny trailer, so he thought and thought and thought how he could get it and the counter lady said “The only way to get this trailer is to ask” so he asked her very politely and he got it. The lady at the counter was really happy about his attitude so she gave him a blue lollipop to take home. He said “ Thank you very much “ and she said “ You're welcome”

After that he went to the childrens books to find some books. He found really good books called “What the ladybug heard and Little miss trouble”. Those two books were his favourite books. But he had a little think about it because he was going to have to take really good care of the books and to make sure its not ripped or drawn on.

Skating competition

On a beautiful, sunny day I went to a skate park with my friend Stan. We took our skateboards and helmets with us so that we can be safe, then we saw this paper flying around on the skate park I picked it up and it said “ Skating competition this friday at the pipe in town” Stan and I thought of something so that we could go to it, “ Yes ” my mum and Stan’s mum said together, me and Stan were really happy.

The next day past of excitement for me and Stan, we went to the skate park to practise for the competition, then after that we went home to eat some lunch. Stan had to talk to me about something so he went outside and said that he couldn’t do the competition because he had to go look after his sick grandma up North. So it was only me in our group who was doing the competition, I felt really bad for him because he couldn’t do it. Then we had two days until it was the final day.

The day is here. The competition was here and everyone was here, even my family and friends were here to support me. It was my turn, I was so nervous because the crowd went silent, but then in my head I remember what my grandma said when I was little “ Just believe in yourself “ So I did that, and then I made it I didn't come 1st but I did come 2nd place.

Stomach Churning

One day I went to a place where there was a roller coaster that was black all over with red and orange flames. I went on it with my friends.

As soon as we did the loopty loop I was about to fall out and puked in my purse. I held it in and then when it was the next loop I fell out screaming.

On my way down a long fall “ I got you” said a voice from above me. I looked up and there he was Superman. “ You rescued me from a very long fall how can I repay you” I said happily.

“You can repay me by doing your homework every night” he said, and read a book for at least 20 minutes, promise”
“ Promise” I said.

Mount Tongariro

Mount Tongariro is an active volcano. It has been said that Mount Tongariro has erupted after lying dormant for more than a century now, but this year we had one on the 7th of August 2012. The Roads were closed and the people had to stay indoors while the ash and rocks spewed from the mountains that Monday. Mount Tongariro is in the Tongariro National Park, New Zealand's first national park and one of the earliest in the world. 

Volcanic Eruption!!!!

Fuego's Eruption In Guatemala

Did you know that there was a volcanic eruption in Guatemala? Over 10,000 people have been forced to evacuate their homes after a massive volcanic eruption. Fuego, one of the world's most active volcanoes, started spewing ash and lava late last week. All air travel in the area was cancelled after an ash cloud started to spread for miles around. On Friday morning Lava had already been blasted over four miles away from Fuego's crater. It's the largest eruption in the country since 1999.

Dangers Of Smoking.

Smoking can cause death and different kinds of diseases. I believe that smoking is really bad for younger people because there parents would not want them to die at an early age. But some parents just let there kids do whatever they want, which is a really bad thing to do.

1 of the diseases is Lung-Cancer, lot’s of people who smoke mostly get this disease, and it’s only because they don't look after there body properly. Sometimes people will try and quit smoking, but it will always come back to you, and then it will become a habit.

It will become addictive to you because of the Nicotine alters the balance of chemicals in your brain, even if you want to quit smoking, you may find it difficult because you’re addicted to the effects of it. What I searched up was that the more you smoke the more your brain gets addicted to the nicotine. And it can also mean the the more you smoke the more things happen to you like Heart disease which could really kill your body and you.

I have shown what things that can get addicted to you and what the dangers of smoking is. I also have shown that smoking is really bad for younger people because it would be sad if they died at an early age.

Our New Zealand Soldiers remain in Afghanistan.

These were the ten soldiers who have died in Afghanistan.

On the 21 of August 2012, New Zealand’s Prime Minister, John Key, has reported that New Zealand forces will be remain in Afghanistan until 2013, because three more New Zealanders have died. Corporal Luke Tamatea, Lance Corporal Jacinda Baker and Private Richard Harris, these were the three people who were killed during the war in Afghanistan by an improvised explosive device (I.E.D), which is a bomb. On the 4th of August, Lance Corporals Rory Malone and Pralli Durrer were killed during an ambush in the area of Bamyan. Ten New Zealand soldiers have now died in Afghanistan. John Key says “the New Zealand soldiers have been in the area since 2003”, and that they will be brought home in April next year.

Cross Country 2012

On the day it was cross country we all had to bring a change of clothes for our house colours, my one was Te Arawa which was red, I didn’t have any clothes with me that were red but I had my uniform t-shirt with me which was red. Then it was time to get lined up in our age lines, I was in the 12 year old line. The first thing that happened was that every house captains from each team had to do a song about them self, when it was Te Arawa turn ( My Team ) we did ours like this we had to copy what ever our house captain did and he said “ Everywhere we go, people want to know, who we are, shall we tell them, we are Te Arawa, from the east of auckland” and that was it.

When it was time for the 12 year old girls to run I was so nervous and I felt like I had butterflies. We had to wait for a little while because the 11 year old girls and boys had to go first, but that was fine with me because my family had more time to cheer me on after they had to leave. Then it was our turn I was happy and nervous at the same time. After the clap went then we started jogging and some of us were running. When I went out the gate it felt like I was playing stuck in the mud because of how my feet got stuck in it, but I was still trying to finish the race, I was so tired that I needed to have some air. When I got to the beach we also had to go around this massive farm with lots and lots of puddles around it with mud in it I got so dirty but I didn’t care. After that we went through the reserve and through the bushes and trees and down paths and up paths then I had another rest because my face was hot and felt like it was in the sun for 2 hours, then I was close to the finish line but then they told us that we had to go around the big field again and then there it was the finish line. I tried my hardest to get to the finish line and guess what I did but I’m not sure what I came but the main thing is that I finished the race.

The London Olympics.

My best friend Sarah Walker you know the famous BMX rider well she is joining in the London Olympics 2012. Sarah Walker is a BMX racer who was born in Whakatane, New Zealand, and lives in Kawerau (New Zealand). She started BMX riding in 1999 when she saw her brother, Matt, riding one day.

When she went to the London olympics she came second place with a silver medal in the BMX race. She is the bestest friend and I guess that lot’s of people would want to be like her, but me I want to follow my dream because my dream is to be an actress because I want to be an actor when I grow up, or a probably a famous singer.

Going For Golds.

These are two gold metals that Mr Harris has given me for my excellent work. Because I have been keeping up to date with my work and putting enough posts on my blog.

Our Assignments.

We have a fitness log that can help us get better at things like push-ups, skipping and other things like that. The thing that I have been working on is learning how to do skipping properly. Here is my fitness log that I have been working on.

"Usain Bolt Inspires Me"

   

The person that really inspires me is Usain Bolt, he is the fastest man alive.
Usain Bolt was born on the 21 of august 1986, and he was born in Trelawny, Jamaica. He became the first junior sprinter to run the 200 m in less than 20 seconds, that is incredible, and a world record.
I think that Usain Bolt choose the right sport ( Track and Field ) to play because he is now famous for what he has done.
I plan to run every day like around 4 times around my block and maybe I could be like him if I look after my body properly.

My Bestest Friends.

I have a friend named Turuhira she has been my friend for more than 2 years she is a really good friend to me. I also have a friend named Helen she comes from a place in China called Korea, she told me that she lives in the South Korea, she also told me that her and her family were not allowed in the North Korea because The North and The South Korea had a war between each other in 1950. I have 4 other friends named Tauwhare, Andrea, Tui and Zion these are also some of my best friends. Sometimes we argue and fight but most of the times we are together and friends forever.

“When Is The Right Time To Swear”

Residents in a small town outside of Boston,USA, The police chief to impose a $US20 fine on public profanity. I think the right time to swear is when you are really really angry and you can’t hold it in (100% Angry).



Most of us all know that swearing is not good for kids because some people want there kids to grow up and not be swearing to other people and most of the times you will hear swearing from across the road or even next door.

Gary Connery.

On the 23rd of May 2012 Gary Connery jumped out of a helicopter without a parachute. It happened in South Oxfordshire, England at a place called Henley-on-Thames.

Why did he do it? Well I think that he did it to achieve in something and to hold a world record. The world record for Gary Connery is to be the first person to jump out of a helicopter from the highest altitude (height above sea-level) without a parachute.

He is a father of two, a veteran of 880 skydives, 450 base jumps and dozens of film and television roles.

For me I probably want to go skydiving just like Gary Connery, a world-record star.

ART ALIVE TERM 2

During the week Room 16 have been painting different paintings from different painters. When we were doing our rotations we went to Room 20 first, and the painter of the paintings that we were going to do is Danielle Hulme, to me I think her paintings were beautiful because of the different colours and the different types of patterns she uses. The painting that we painted was a red flower, the red flower was part of a picture that Daniella Hulme painted. When my painting was finished it did not end up as a flower it ended up as a red puppet, but I tried my best. But this painting that I have here is painting that I drew but copied from a photo on the internet I wanted to make it realistic but I put black on the top dark grey in the middle and light grey at the bottom.

Vincent Van Gogh

Vincent Van Gogh was born on March the 30th, 1853 in Zundert, a town in the southern Netherlands. He died at his own hand in France at the age of 37. The son of a protestant pastor, he was the eldest of six children and, by all accounts, had a normal life, and a happy childhood. Van gogh came from an upstanding family of clergymen, art-dealers, and military officers, and his parents wished for him to follow in this tradition. As a child, he was an insatiable reader. He most famous paintings were the, Starry Light, SunFlowers, Irises, Poppies, The Bedroom, Blossoming Almond Tree, The Mulberry Tree, and the Potato eaters.

SPORTS :)

Sports!! What I like about sports is that it makes me fit and makes me want to do it again and again. I also like sports because you get to compete against schools and when you win you probably will win trophies and certificates.

I love playing Netball because its fun and awesome. Netball is a ball sport played between two teams of seven players. The sport Netball is mostly played on the court with two Netball hoops at the end of the court. Each team attempts to score goals by passing a ball down the court and shooting it through its goal ring, and the winning team that has the most goals win, and when I grow up I want to be like Maria Tutaia.

My second favorite sport is badminton. I like badminton because it is fun and a little bit easy for me. The first time I started playing badminton was when I was 10, our teacher for badminton was Lorraine and Debby. We use a racket and a shuttle to play Badminton and a net, then you have a partner on one side of the net and the other person have to be on the other side.

Reading a School Journal Is Cool.

The first story I read was called "The Shark Man". It is about a man named Ian Lauder, he loves to look and take photos of Sharks. How to stay safe near the Sharks? Well what you should do is work in a cage, tie it to a boat, and then the Sharks can't get in.

Camp! Day 1-2

Well guess what next week on the 12th to the 14th of March the year’s 7/8 have camp. I’m so ecstatic and excited about it because we are going to doalot of cool things like sleeping and eating and also doing activities. The main thing about it is having fun with your friends and teachers. I really hope that everyone will have a great time at camp and will be happy and not sad.

Old School Games.
The first activity we did was Old School Games with Mr Harris. The first game we played was with balloons and string, what we had to do was blow up the balloon and wrap the string around it, then we had to tie it around our leg then start popping each others balloons. After that we played a game called Captain on deck, it was a really cool game because lots of people lost and they would have to stand by the stage and stay there until the whole game was finished.

Amazing Race.
When we were inside the Markey waiting for all the kids to come Mr Barks was showing us a sling shot that he made and a little ball made out of paper. He said that we had to hit the buckets that have 10,20,50 and 100 and those will be the points that we get and if it went inside the bucket we would double the number. So we started making our sling shot with a stick and string and also Tyre rubber (witch was the sling to hold the ball and aim it to the right direction. The next activity we did for amazing race was that we got into a group of six and went different ways to find stuff to make an egg. First Turuhira and I went down to the beach and had to find a sign that has a star and there will be wood there, the other couples went to the GI swimming pools and got given a little block of wood, then at the bakery we got and egg, and at the office we got matches and at the tree we got a big can and ran straight to where Mr Barks and Mrs Langitupu were. We had to make a tea then put the block on the inside it and lit the little block thing on fire and put the tin on it and crack the egg, then it would be cooking and ready.

When we went to do some boxing in the breeze with these 3 men we had to put boxing gloves on and the other person had to put something on I forgot what it was called. Then we did some boxing but Turuhira and I got into trouble a few times because we were hitting each other with the gloves but we had fun doing boxing and hitting each other with it. It was

so fun but we had to move on to our next rotation.

Camp 1

Waking up early was a hard thing to do for me, Mrs Nua woke us up by saying "Hidee, Ho Campers," and we would haft to say back to her "Hidee Ho Mrs Nua" After that we woke up and went out side on the field to do some Jump Jam we did about 5 songs and then we went into the Mar key to sit down for breakfast. Then we had to go and get ready for our first activities, our first activity was food preparation, what we had to do was get into 5 groups of 5 and then one person had to search up a recipe for scones and the other had to get the food from Mrs Telea, she was like a shop keeper. Then we had to combine the ingredients together to make it look like dough. After that we got the rolling pin and started rolling the dough out, and then next Jarna had to cut it into pieces, then Dakota took it into the the oven to cook for 15-20 min. After it was all cooked we got it out the oven and spreaded cream and jam and butter on our yummy scones.

Duffy Show.

Imagine if you were at a play, like I was at P.t England school. The first thing we did was that we sat on the ground in the hall and waited for the show to start, but I was only there for the 2nd half because I was doing my job with Turuhira and Jay'lee. My favorite part was when Emmy was unwrapping the paper (which were Pt England students) and inside the wrapping paper was Marvel she was the most coolest book in the world.

Netball.

On the 9th of Febuary room 19 went to the court to play Netball. When we went there we saw dots and crosses on the ground, and a bag with Net Balls init. After that we went on the court to wait for our coach Liz, she is the lady that is teaching us how to play Netball . The first thing we did was to get on a dot or an x and stay there, while 1 boy was handing out the bibs the other was handing out the balls, the people that were standing on the x's they got the bibs and the people that were on the dots ( like me ) got a ball.

Then we were practicing chest pasting with the partner next to you, my partner was Tau. After that we were split into 4 groups one team was on 1 side of the court and the others were on the other side of the court. What we had to do first was that one team had the ball the other team had to jump over the ramp and then the team is going to pass you the ball and then you will land on one foot and then the other. Then we went on the other side of the court and had challenges, our goal was to hit the dots in the blue square. After the game was finished my team won and the other team lost. Then we went back to class and relaxed.

Health+Me

This term, in Maths, we are learning about statistics. As part of our learning we are examining data related to our health. The first part of our examination we collected data ( infomation ) about the food we ate for one week ( 2/2 to 9/2 ). The graph ( or chart ) shows how much I ate from six major food groups.

The treaty of waitangi.

The Treaty of waitangi is a treaty first sighned on 6 Febuary 1840 by representatives of the british crown and various maori cheifs from the North Island of New zealand. In stead of Queen Victoria sighning the treaty she sent William Hobson to New Zealand to do it for her. The treaty established a British Governor of New Zealand, recognised Maori ownership of their lands and other properties, and gave the Maori the rights of British subjects. The english and Maori versions of the treaty differed significantly, so there is no consensus as to exactly what was agreed to. From the British point of veiw,the treaty gave Britain sovereignty over New Zealand, and gave the Governor the right to govern the country. Maori also believed ceded to the Crown a right of governance in return for protection, without giving up their authority to manage their own affairs.

My favorite part of the holidays.

In the holidays I went to the pools with my family. We went to the Swimarama pools in panmure because it was a really hot day. When we first went in, my mum had to pay for my sisters and brothers my dad and me. Then we went to the changing room to get changed in to our swimming togs, after that we went to the outside pools with my family and they all went into the pool because the hydroslide was not open yet. Then a few minutes later it opened and all the kids rushed to it. When I went up the stairs and reached the top I was so tied that I went down the hydroslide, but it was so cold. After I went down I saw my aunty there with her camera taking photos of me and my big brother Dominic and my big sister Vaughn. And that was my favorite highlight of the holidays.
